The second phase of the two-phase pilot project of Kuch Karo involves the restoration of Sehba Akhtar Library. This will be an opportunity for the participants of the workshop to apply the skills of persuasion, project-management and critical thinking they are expected to acquire during the course of the workshop.
Sehba Akhtar Library was chosen because of its close proximity to Lead High School, which will enable students from the school to utilize the library as a study space once it has been restored. The library, unfortunately, requires a lot of work. It is completely rundown and has a very small and outdated collection of books.
For the restoration phase of our project, participants will have to collaborate with local policy-makers, leaders and community-members. The Kuch Karo Core Team will be responsible for providing financial, organizational and managerial resources and expertise.
The Library Restoration Phase includes providing:
A paint job
Furniture and fixtures
An extensive book collection
Multimedia facilities
We hope to transform Sehba Akhtar Library into a comfortable and functional space so that it becomes an integral part of the community and is not only utilized as a library but also as the venue for various events in the region.
One of the objectives of the Workshop Phase is to train participants to become volunteers and overseers of the library they will be adopting so that sustainability can be ensured.
